Barbara Foote and Sandy Largen are the ladies behind the name The Smocking Room. Begun in Sept. 1989, our business has been primarily in custom sewing, particularly smocking and heirloom sewing, for christenings, communions, and flower girls. Although Barbara now lives in Hawaii, she manages the website and continues to contribute custom made dresses to the shop, as well as to work on custom orders. Sandy manages the shop and teaches classes in smocking and heirloom sewing. She has taken classes from Martha Pullen.
We have increased our inventory of fabrics, laces, patterns, plates, books and notions to better serve the ladies who love to sew. Also, we can order pleaters or offer a pleating service with an in-store pleater. Our fabrics include Imperial broadcloth and batiste, Capitol batiste, linen batiste, silk batiste, Japanese lawn, English lawn, Swiss Nelona, Bearissima, and English Netting. Our French and English laces and Swiss Embroideries come from Capitol Imports, 1752 Co., and Bear Threads.
